Policy and advice

Advice and coordination
In its role as advisor, EYE helps to improve the quality and distribution of media education. By working closely with both the film and education sectors, EYE can track developments in both areas, for example, the extent to which media education is included in school curricula.

Advancing expertise
EYE works to advance the expertise of teachers at the primary and secondary school levels with ‘Inspiration Days’ and training programmes. Teachers are introduced to film education in a way that covers both content and practical matters. There’s also an opportunity to meet with regional media educators and see what they have to offer.

In this way, teachers can immediately begin to use what’s locally available to them in their lessons on film and other media. Tailor-made training is also available. Additionally, EYE is developing an e-learning system to offer online media education to enable teachers to expand their film education knowledge.

Policy formation
EYE represents the Netherlands internationally and contributes to policy formation in the areas of film and media education and the distribution of children’s film. To this end, EYE participates in international organisations such as the Centre International du Film pour l’Enfence et la Jeunesse (CIFEJ) and the European Children's Film Association (ECFA).

Since 2007, EYE has been a member of an expert group on audiovisual media education within the European Commission. Within Dutch-speaking regions, EYE regularly exchanges knowledge and experience with a variety of Belgian institutions.
